Sprague lives in Pennsylvania, and I live on the Gulf of Mexico. I did, however, have the opportunity to spend two days interviewing him on the shores of Lake Erie and listening to him reminisce about his past. The last day I was there we spent eleven hours talking and watching films of the tests of the Higgins airborne lifeboat. It was one of the most enjoyable days that I spent in researching this book. I am deeply indebted to Higgins' daughters, Dawn Higgins Murphy, and her husband, Bob, and Andrée Higgins Stefferud, and her husband, David.
